New York, NY

Candle Cafe- Always happy to do a post on a local favorite- Candle Cafe has been a staple in the NYC plantbased community since 1993! This Upper East Side organic, vegan restaurant offers amazing salads, veggie burgers, entrees and has a juice bar as well. I’ve never been disappointed with what I ordered at Candle. On my recent trip, I had the portobello and black bean burger, which is made in house and is stellar. I love to get the 'Good Food Plate', which entrée of sides where you can choose 4 sides and 2 sauces- You can’t go wrong with that option. The prices are up there but not out of hand, especially for UES Manhattan organic. While the salads are a bit small for the price, in general, the portion sizes are on point. Also fyi, Candle Cafe has a more upscale sister restaurant a few blocks away called Candle 79, which is getting into full on gourmet dining- plantbased style. I usually stick with the more casual vibe of the original Candle Cafe. The space is bright, clean and the staff is always super friendly. If you are in NYC and looking for a healthy option for lunch/dinner, Candle Cafe is always a great spot to check out.

Oakland, CA

Potala Organic Cafe– Potala is as good as it gets. Great concept, all you need to get is the full or medium plate. They tell you what you want (and need)! The vibe is casual and the servers are friendly but the real reason to come here is the absolutely outstanding organic vegan food. Hands down, my favorite spot in Oakland (only to be rivaled by Manzanita-reviewed below, which seems to be run by the same folks). Fyi it closed at 3pm the day we went.

Manzanita/Shangri-La– This spot is so great!!! It is either the same owners or was the same owner of Potala and these places are gems in the bay area! It has the same concept as Potala of all vegan, organic- where you can pay by medium or large plate and they basically have the meal of the day and no other options. I believe you can order side dishes a la carte. Manzanita also has some vegan baked goods as well. The zen like ambiance is very relaxed and great for a casual meal. I wish there were more places like this around the country.

WORKOUT- Big up to my friend Henry, tennis coordinator in the east bay. Through him, I found a solid community of tennis players that play over at Laney College in Oakland. When we have shows in Oakland, we always stay at a strip of hotels near the Bay Bridge off the 880 and the courts at Laney are an easy jog away. Not the best maintained courts but they are free and near the downtown Oakland area, so who can complain?!

Eugene, OR

Coalesce- Super cool vegan food truck in Eugene. We had an afternoon radio performance and I was glad to find Coalesce a block away from the station. Coalesce is entirely vegan, organic and gluten free. They are primarily raw but have a few hot and cooked items as well. They have an extensive juice menu. I had an amazing Spinach Portabella soup with a small superfood salad. Both were great! The prices were steep but as I've said before, quality comes with a price tag!

Beverly MA

Organic Garden- What a great find in Beverly MA. This plantbased, vegan restaurant/juice bar is a bit off the beaten path about 40 minutes north of Boston. They had so many good options! I went with the Harvest Bowl- with quinoa, spinach, butternut squash, cranberry, sprouts and muchi curry. It was awesome! They have a full juice and smoothie menu as well as vegan and gluten free baked goods. The ambiance is very relaxed and the prices were cool, especially given that everything is organic. Overall, a gem of a find!

Seattle, WA

Healeo- What a great juice bar/café in Seattle! I highly recommend Healeo, if looking for a good healthy stop. After a high energy show the previous night, an 8-mile run and gym session in the morning and I seriously needed to refuel. I got a ‘Superfood Acai Bowl’ with goji berries and peanut protein powder. Sooo Good! I also had a green juice with all veggies, which was great as well. Healeo is mostly raw, however there were a few cooked/hot dishes. The prices aren’t cheap but totally reasonable and well worth it, given that it is all organic. There were so many other items on the menu that I wanted to try. Looking forward to hitting this spot up again next time I’m in Seattle!

Newport, TN

The Mustard Seed/Back to the Garden Deli- Whoa, what a find in Newport TN!!! This place is so great and in quite a small town. We topped here on our way from Asheville, NC to Louisville, KY. Truly healthy vegan and gluten free options and organic! They make their own almond milk, veggie burgers and most other items are made in house. Back to the Garden is a small business run by a family, which makes it even more more awesome. The owner is very passionate about health and has owned this place for 12 years. It's really affordable and priced fairly. Can't say enough good things about this spot. If you are in the area or passing through, check it out.

San Diego, CA

Cafe Gratitude- I've been to a bunch of Cafe Gratitude's and IMO this one is the best quality. It is a few dollars more than others but worth it. The interior pretty is swanky as well. It is right down the street from the venue, that we played at, which made it an easy pre-show dinner choice. I had the 'I am Humble' bowl, which was so good. It had Curried lentil dal, spinach, roasted yams, coconut chutney, spicy tomato jam, scallions, sprouted probiotic rice. This dish is a winner! My buddy had the 'I am accepting' which also got great reviews. Overall, Cafe Gratitude is a great option for healthy eats in downtown/Gaslamp San Diego.

Louisville, KY

Life Bar- This juice bar has incredible options, creative superfood smoothies and awesome vegetable blends (smoothies) and it’s all organic. The only downside is that this comes with a significant price tag. But hey you have to pay for quality, right? I got the It’s Not Easy Being Green, a green veggie smoothie and added the raw vegan protein. It was so good but cost $11.50, so just be ready if/when you come here. Everyone in my crew loved what they ordered, although my friend was priced out on the $10.50 juices and didn’t get anything. Still the array of superfoods and organic smoothie options would keep me coming back here despite the hit to my wallet.

Grand Rapids, MI

Sip Grand Rapids.jpg

Sip– Great to have an organic juice bar in Grand Rapids. This spot has a seriously great menu of juices and smoothies. They also have a few to go salads and prepared raw foods in the cooler. So many options at this spot make it hard to choose! I went with the acai bowl and the all vegi savory juice- does your mother know. The juice was amazing, acai bowl good but a little small for $10.
This place is definitely pricey, I wish I could order more stuff but my wallet held me back. Also they are slowww. Quality takes time, so it’s allgood but just be ready for a serious wait if there is a line.
All that being said, this spot is most definitely an awesome find. Plus I dig the funky furniture.
